CCTV caught most of the action after the bandit fell through the ceiling and held officers at bay.
When the first police officer came face to face with the raccoon, it startled them both.
Sgt. Scott Banks came out to the lobby, coffee in hand, to check on what was happening and saw the raccoon clinging to a door jam.
Another officer grabbed a catch pole to guide the raccoon out the door. But the raccoon didn't want to go.
"It wanted back in the building. It fought there at the door trying to get back in. He really didn't want outside, so it likes it here at the new public safety center. And it wanted to stay," Sgt. Banks said.
The raccoon clung to the front door before finally jumping down and running off into the woods. Once it was gone, the first thing the officers did was grab the surveillance footage.
