After many years of criticism that windows came in too many versions, MS has moved to eliminate the confusion.
Windows 8 will come in four versions. Eliminating the confusion of multiple and slightly different versions of the same Operating system, Microsoft announced that Windows 8 will come in the following versions: One for home use, one for business use, one for devices running ARM chips and one for large enterprises who buy in bulk.
Most people will buy the version that will simply be called Windows 8 that is designed for home users for desktops and laptops. The business version will simply be called Windows 8 Pro. That version will feature the ability to encrypt files, do virtualization and domain management.
Windows RT, a new name for what had been called Windows on ARM, will come preinstalled on PC's and tablets that run ARM processors. It will not be able to run traditional x86/64 desktop software. Instead, it will run touch-oriented applications, based on the Windows runtime ( WinRT ) programming model for mobile apps. ( Applications for the touch-oriented Metro interface are built using Windows Runtime. )
Windows RT will come with touch-oriented versions of MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint and OneNote.
