Over the weekend, updating their WinRT systems form 8.0 to 8.1, many people were greeted with "Boot Configuration data file is missing." I can feel the jokes coming now. "How do you turn your tablet into a Frisbee? Run an update from Microsoft." Feel free to add your own.
Since, Microsoft has pulled the 8.1 upgrade from the Net.
Today Microsoft has released a full downloadable Surface RT Recovery Image for those who were affected. You will need to download the file (About 3.7 Gigs) as well as the installation PDF (407 KB)which is offered at the time of download and copy those to a bootable drive that you can plug into your USB port. From there, just follow the instructions on the PDF and you should be good to go.
