As we reported recently about a California woman who successfully sued Microsoft over a botched upgrade to Windows 10, Microsoft has decided to rethink its upgrade method.

When the prompt appears to upgrade to Windows 10, clicking the red-X would stop the download but schedule it for a later time. This ensured that the upgrade would happen regardless of user choice.
Microsoft has gotten a lot of feedback that the process was confusing for users. So as of this week, they have changed the process:
"The new experience has clearer options to upgrade now, choose a time, or decline the free offer," said Terry Myerson, executive vice president, Windows and Devices Group.
"If the red-x is selected on this new dialog, it will dismiss the dialog box and we will notify the device again in a few days."
Many users felt it was a dirty trick that pressing the red-X would schedule the upgrade for a later time.
