The mugshots of these two lovely ladies are what nightmares are made of for sure - their actions prove to be just as nightmarish. The duo is accused of perpetrating an internet dating scam that cost victims over $1 million, a portion of the swindled funds were sent on to associates in Nigeria.
CBS Denver reports that the Colorado Attorney General indicted Tracy and Karen Vasseur of being part of a “Nigerian internet romance scam” involving people pretending to be military members serving in Afghanistan.
The fake soldiers would start relationships with women then ask for money for travel and other expenses.
Tracy, 41, and her mother, Karen, 73, live in Brighton. They allegedly tricked women into relationships and accepted payments via wire over a three-year period.
Tracy faces up to 205 years in prison if convicted on all counts. Karen faces up to 172 years in prison.
Investigators believe there are 374 victims in the United States and from 40 other countries.
