Miserware closes down Granola project

Posted by: Timothy Tibbetts on 02/09/2014 05:01 PM [ comments Comments ]

Miserware today announced they are abandoning the Granola project. Granola reduced your computers electricity by 15-35% and was a free program. The attempt was to make money selling this to companies to save money, but apparently it didn’t catch on. Obviously people use their computers less as well so one could argue the home user already uses 15-35% less energy there and a tablet or phone version never emerged.

Here is the official announcement:

Hello,
It is with a heavy heart that I make this announcement. Due to funding issues, we are shutting down MiserWare’s services, including Granola Personal and Granola Enterprise, effective immediately. Since 2008, we have been overwhelmed by the degree to which you and our thousands of other customers have dedicated yourselves to reducing our collective environmental impact, and it has been an honor to help you in that aim.

Unfortunately, despite our best efforts we could not manage to make a self-sufficient business out of Granola Personal and Granola Enterprise. For Granola Personal users, your clients will continue to save energy. For Granola Enterprise clients, I will send you an email with next steps.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me directly. Thank you again for your support.

Regards,
Joseph Turner
