Cyber criminals are able to install malicious apps onto your devices through malicious URL's coupled with social engineering techniques. The malicious URL's also provide communication with the criminals. They need this communication to stay undetected and carry out their activities on your devices.
Trend Micro reports that of all the malicious apps it has tested, 17% have malicious URLs embedded in them. 90% of those are classified as disease vectors. The communication that goes on due to these vectors uses the URLs to download other malware or components.
Where are they from? 60% use North American domains. 24% use European, Middle Eastern, and African, while 16% use Asia Pacific domains.
