A young mother in Hagerstown, MD., was arrested and charged for such a senseless death that it boggles the mind; the woman was breastfeeding her infant child while intoxicated, she passed out and somehow ended up on top of her baby smothering it.
According to NBC Washington, Yadina Morales, 22, woke up before 7 a.m. to find her 2-month-old daughter underneath her and unresponsive in a home in the 11200 block of Scarlet Oak Drive, according to the Washington County Sheriff's Office.
The sheriff's office says Morales was highly intoxicated and lost consciousness while trying to breastfeed.
The child was taken to Meritus Medical Center where she was pronounced dead. Her body was taken to the medical examiner in Baltimore for an autopsy.
Morales also was taken to Meritus Medical Center as a precaution.
Morales was charged with manslaughter, second-degree child abuse, reckless endangerment and other charges.
