National Grid security boss's laptop stolen

The man in charge of security for the UK National Grid power distribution infrastructure, Warren Bamford, had his work laptop stolen last week, according to a report in The Independent. Bamford, who retired from the FBI in 2010, took a job as vice president of the National Grid's global security.

The laptop was taken on 26 September from a Hilton hotel in Warwick where Bamford was staying; Hilton Worldwide say they notified the authorities immediately. The laptop was, according to another report, encrypted; That report also raised fears that the laptop could have contained plans for the protection of the UK power infrastructure; however, a spokesperson for the National Grid said, after confirming the theft, that "There is no sensitive information on the laptop that could cause any sort of security risk". Apparently, the laptop has not been recovered yet.
