If you are using Netgear routers models R7000 and R6400, you are being warned to not use them. There is a serious flaw that could allow hackers to run malicious code with root privileges.
These models are subject to arbitrary command injection attacks, although it is not sure how many users there are with these models.
All it takes is a visit to a criminal backed website that contains specially crafted malicious code to exploit the flaw. The flaw has been published so any one with criminal intent can access these routers.
These routers could become another device in the Mirai botnet that is affecting numerous websites and ISP's.
Carnegie Mellon University's public vulnerability database (CERT) is advising that users of these routers discontinue using them until a patch is made available.
