New battery technology could revolutionize the industry

Posted by: Timothy Weaver on 10/13/2014 03:16 PM [ comments Comments ]

Researchers at Nanyang Technology University have found a way to build a better battery.

The researchers replaced the graphite used in the anode of lithium-ion batteries with a gel made from titanium dioxide nanotubes "a thousand times thinner than the diameter of a human hair." This new technology allows for a battery to go from empty to a 70% charge in just two minutes and has a whopping 10,000-cycle lifespan, meaning you can charge a battery 10,000 times.

The new batteries could hit the market within two years and has already been licensed.
