New Ransomware Demands $4,900

Posted by: Timothy Weaver on 01/30/2016 08:13 AM [ comments Comments ]

A report published earlier this week announces the discovery of a new ransomware called “ 7ev3n.”

This is the highest ransom ever found as it is holding files hostage for a demand of 13 bitcoin worth the equivalent of just over $4,900.

This new ransomware is also the most destructive as it not only holds ones files hostage but also disables the infected machine's bootup and recovery capabilities, including the Windows Emergency Management System, the Advanced Options startup menu and more.

Although it hasn't spread significantly, there is no decryption key as yet. And even if the victim pays up, it is a hard task to make the system usable again.
