New York is saying good-bye to its pay phones.

The city is pursuing an ambitious plan to replace all of their pay phones with high speed WiFi kiosks with speeds of up to 1 gigabit per second.
The kiosks will be in all five boroughs with as many as 10,000 locations. These modernized payphone kiosks will offer free charging for your mobile devices, and a built-in Android tablet from which you can access city services (such as 911) and directions. WiFi access will be possible within 150 feet of the kiosk.
The construction will start in 2015 and should be up and running by the end of the year.
