Sometimes a malware infection is plain as day. Other times it’s a silent killer.
Here are some signs that you may be infected.
1) You have ransomware. This is pretty obvious because you will get a notice to pay the ransom.
2) Browser Redirects. No matter what you click on or type in, your browser sends you to a different page.
3) Different Home page. You may also get some new toolbars (rows of selectable icons) below your browser window that you can’t get rid of.
4) Bombarded with Pop-ups. Close out one and another pops up. It's usually a sign of adware or spyware.
5) Slow running computer. Many things could be the cause of a slow running computer such as too many programs running, full hard drive or lack of ram. But if none of that is true, it could be signs of an infection.
6) New icons show up on your desktop. Usually the sign of PUP's.
7) Web browser freezes. It could be malware. Check with your ISP or test your download speeds. If all is well, consider malware.
8) Bounced Emails. A good sign that your account has been hacked.
9) Constant crashing. Some forms of malware, such as rootkits, dig deep into the Windows kernel and latch on, creating instability.
Some forms of malware may not create any signs at all. Which is why you should run your protection software on a regular schedule and make sure it is up to date.
