The Dropbox account data of Dustin Brown, a 19-year-old high school student, led to his arrest on charges of child pornography.
The teen brought two knives to a local library, where he planned to kill 16 children gathered for a home school chess club meeting. His plans were sent awry by James Vernon, a 75-year-old United States Army veteran. Although Vernon never served in combat, he was trained 50 years ago in hand to hand knife fighting.
Brown was charged with 22 felony counts of possession of child pornography. He pled not guilty to all charges and was released on a $12,500 bond.
information turned over by Dropbox along with information provided by Internet providers allowed cyber crime detective Scott Gamboe the information needed to identify Brown. That information allowed Gamboe to get a warrant to search Brown, his home, and school locker.
According to court documents, Brown told police after the attack: "I failed my mission to kill everyone.”
