"No Name" Tablets Come with Malware Pre-installed

As much as users are warned about where they download apps from for their devices, it is now being cautioned to watch what you buy.

Chinese researchers are warning that inexpensive tablets are coming pre-installed with malware. These tablets are housed by Amazon and other third party vendors. Most of them are being classified as "no name" devices.

These aren't iPads or Google Nexus tablets, of course — they're low-end devices from no-name manufacturers, typically built in China. That's according to an investigation from Chinese mobile company Cheetah Mobile.

Cheetah says that more than 17,000 infected devices have been sold, though not all through Amazon — the tablets are also available for purchase elsewhere on the web.

The researchers found the malware -- a Trojan horse called Cloudsota -- preinstalled on certain Android tablets, enables remote control of the infected devices and conducts malicious activities without user consent.

For customers who have already bought the devices, the researchers have published a guide on how to remove the malware.
