None too bright iPhone smuggler

A man tried to smuggle iPhones into mainland China.

Authorities checked his baggage, found nothing and then decided to have him walk through a metal detector. Part of the reason for the search was his stiff gait. He was reportedly walking like a robot with stiff joints. Authorities took the man into a private room and did a search where they found that he had 94 iPhone 6's and 5's taped to his body.

The handsets are estimated to be worth more than 300,000 yuan ($49,000).

According to the report, iPhones are more expensive in mainland China than Hong Kong due to higher import taxes. A 64GB iPhone 6, for instance, sells for almost $1,000 in the mainland but just $820 in Hong Kong, enticing those looking to make some extra cash.
