Nvidia has taken to heart requests from gamers that they would have a home-run if the console was priced at the happy wallet price of $299 - so they dropped the price of 'Shield' by $50!
Nvidia project manager Jason Paul says that they’ve helped us build a better product. Feedback from gamers is why SHIELD’s triggers have the perfect throw length. Why SHIELD’s buttons have just the right amount of give. Why SHIELD’s thumb sticks are so satisfying to flick. Why playing games on SHIELD’s pure Android software feels so slick.
The result: while SHIELD isn’t available until June 27th – we’re making that official today – it’s already grabbed awards by the fistful – including dozens of ‘Best of Show’ awards at CES, Computex and E3.
VentureBeat says the price drop shouldn't be too surprising: With the next-gen PlayStation 4 launching at $400 and the Xbox One at $500, the Shield’s $349 price would have even been more difficult to swallow. Now, Nvidia can position the Shield console as a better value for PC gamers. The Shield can play Android games on its own, as well as stream games from PC’s equipped with Nvidia’s recent lineup of video cards. It sports a 5-inch screen, as well as an HDMI port so you can game on your TV.
If you’ve already pre-ordered SHIELD, you’ll be charged the new, lower price. You will only be charged $299 when the product ships.
