oCam Removed and Blacklisted Due to Malware, Popups, Nags and More

MajorGeeks prides itself on the reputation of testing software before it's posted and afterward. In this case, thanks to an astute reader, we just found out that oCam has gone to the dark side. We like to allow all sorts of apps here, freeware, shareware, open source, freemium (upgrades for extra features) because good programs are good programs. It's as simple as this.
Sure enough, as we retested oCam, we spotted advertising and nags to buy the professional version. We could let this slide, but what we couldn't let slide was the forced data miner. As you can see in our screenshot, what oCam is doing is opening what appears to be a website and asks you to upgrade to the newest version.
You can't close that box, only click on OK, and that's when it starts installing malware. It installs something called BRTSvc, a known crypto miner. This will use your computer resources and slow your computer down.
This is as sleazy as any drive-by website with forced installations or worse, those tech support scams. It sticks, and oCam should be ashamed of themselves.
If you have other favorite download websites, be sure to let them know. They shouldn't list oCam, and if they refuse to remove it, you know not to trust them either. All of the big websites have it listed at the time of this article. We plan to post this story to social media and tag these websites to give them a heads up.
