OMG Discovery - Thanks

I, like many, set my dvd yesterday to record the 2 hours premiere kick off of the Discovery Channels Shark Week, 'Shark of Darkness: The Wrath of Submarine'.

This is a 2 hour show that "...explores the legend of "Submarine," an enormous great white shark off the coast of South Africa. This 30-foot shark is said to be the largest great white shark of all time. Locals believe that this shark is responsible for countless fatal attacks, but its existence has never been proven. This documentary explores the evidence and asks the question: can Submarine exist?."

When I sat down to watch, I was fascinated and horrified to find footage of a man being pulled to sea, as if he were a toy to be played with, while he begged of help. The haunting footage of a lady and a buoy being pulled under with incredible force never to be seen again. But the footage showing this shark waiting its prey vertically..Zoinks! No shark has done before. Waiting for its prey showed, forethought, intellect. I admit I freaked out a little. I got a bit of the cold sweats, I sent a good 40 texts out to friends to catch the show and had one or two decent nightmares.

Then this morning, while doing some research, I found out The Wrath of Submarine is a hoax.

Michelle Wcisel a zooloogist with a blog, Southern Fried Science, called BS early and backs it up with science, history and geography.

Needless to say, I felt slighted. I mean, come on Discovery. I watch your channel for documentary not fake-u-mentary. But then I realized they had tapped into something primal that original JAWS gave me. It also showed me a minor glimpse into what it may have been like when Orson Welles pulled off his War of the Worlds prank... and I gained an appreciation.

Now, that's not to say I 100% forgive Discovery. I'm still contemplating sending the producers this AWESOME sample of Yeti poo that I found in my back yard. However, the show was very well done and I fell for it; hook, line and sinker. (Pun intended). Kudos are in order.

That said, I fell for it because I trust Discovery as a source - I won't fall twice. So in the future, Discovery, let's keep the fake stuff on TruTV where it belongs and I'll keep the Yeti Poo where it belongs... Deal?
