Someone forget to renew their DNS name server domain.
The FBI dropped the ball when it failed to renew two domains once controlled by MegaUpload.
The domains are now serving up malware and porn.
Two of the five domains seized by the FBI now greet surfers with a page containing multiple links to malware downloads, a fake BBC article advertising cheap iPhones, among other things.
The issue stems from the loss of the cirfu.net domain, which was used to host the FBI's name servers. When the FBI failed to renew the domains, cirfu.net was sold off to a self-described "Black Hat SEO" specialist who said he purchased the domain from GoDaddy at auction.
The domains were seized in 2012 as part of a criminal investigation into MegaUpload and its founder Kim Dotcom. The founder, Dotcom, is facing a deportation hearing next month.
