Password Usage Still Incredible Weak

How safe is your password? A study conducted by the US-based password management company Keeper Security found that 2016 saw very little change in users security.

The company looked at 10 million passwords that were the result of password dumps due to previous breaches and found that most users are still using '123456' as the safeguard to their online personal information. The top ten still includes '12345678', '111111', '1234567890', '1234567', 'password', '123123', and '987654321'.

"This is stunning in light of the fact that, as we have reported, today's brute-force cracking software and hardware can unscramble those passwords in seconds. Website operators that permit such flimsy protection are either reckless or lazy," the company said.

Trying to educate the public about online security seems to be a losing battle. Apparently, some have taken the advice and are using such passwords as'1q2w3e4r' and '123qwe', but even these efforts are weak. Dictionary password crackers are very good at looking for sequential key variations.
