Pay the Ransom......Not!!

Posted by: Timothy Weaver on 05/30/2016 02:55 PM [ comments Comments ]

We have been reporting on ransomware for some time now, with the mantra "don’t pay the ransom."

Unfortunately, Kansas Heart Hospital had to learn that lesson the hard way. They paid expecting to have their files unlocked. But the cyber criminals saw a patsy worth exploiting. They unlocked a few files and then demanded more ransom.

The Hospital decided enough was enough at that point and began the tedious task of restoring their files from their backup source.

Maybe if the criminals continue to demand ransoms without unlocking the victims files, people will finally get the message that paying does not result in restored systems. It should be a habit to not only have up to date virus programs, data backed up and knowledge to not click on attachments in emails.
