PayPal Phishing Scams Making the Rounds

The research firm AppRiver is reporting that they found a new phishing campaign aimed at gathering personal info for PayPal users.
AppRiver researcher Troy Gill said this new scam is being cast as a wide net, unlike spear phishing scams, in order to obtain sensitive data from as many people as possible. The email tells the potential victim that their account has been put on a "limited" status until certain information is provided.
The email has an HTML attachment that launches the victim to a fake web page where they are asked to provide name, address, mother's maiden name, payment card information, Social Security number and phone number.
Gill said the HTML page is a dead giveaway that this is a scam, but an unknowledgeable person might not realize PayPal would simply direct someone to their account page.
