A new PayPal scam is making the rounds that involves a phishing email saying that there has been fraudulent activity on the victims account and asks for login credentials.
The email reports of “unusual activity” on their accounts and that PayPal has limited what can be done until security measures have been taken into account. Clicking on the email link takes the victim to a real looking log in screen that includes an SSL certificate to make it look authentic. The page is fake and is hosted on a malicious domain.
If the victim logs into the fake page, they are then told they will not be able to make any withdraws for 15 days. Clicking "continue" takes them to another fake page where they are asked to provide further personal details such as social security numbers, address, phone number, birthdate and mother's maiden name.
Potential victims might be able to detect that it is a fake scam due to minor grammatical and syntax errors as well as asking for the country of origin, which is unusual since social security numbers only apply to the U.S.
