Looking for a job? The pentagon is looking for a few thousand geeks.
The Pentagon’s cyber defenses, the five-year-old U.S. Cyber Command, expects to hire 3,000 workers by next December. The Office of Personnel Management has received permission to bypass the traditional candidate rating process.
What the Cyber Command is looking for are computer scientists and engineers. They also want criminal investigators, IT specialists and security experts. The post stated the positions will require a set of skills that span expertise in cyber, including “risk and strategic analysis, incident handling and malware/vulnerability analysis, program management … [and] cyber-related infrastructure inter-dependency analysis."
According to Nextgov, which reported the news, the Cyber Command is responsible for both offensive and defensive activities online.
As hacking threats increase, lawmakers were urged by Cyber officials at a hearing to ensure stability for the Pentagon’s budget.
Cyber Command chief Adm. Mike Rogers, also the director of the National Security Agency, said: “Where we need help from you is with resources required to hire personnel to fill the team seats as well as necessary operational and strategic headquarters operations, intelligence, and planning staffs."
