Employees from furniture manufacturer and retailer Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams may not get their tax returns this year.

The company fell for a cleverly crafted phishing scam and released the 1,100 employees w-2's.

"We do not believe that the individual who obtained the employee information accessed our computer network or that our IT systems were otherwise compromised by this attack," reads an official company statement addressing the stolen information.

Unfortunately, according to police and employees, the stolen data is already being used to file false tax returns.

The attack occurred on Jan. 23rd and the company reported the event to the Alexander County Sheriff's Office and the FBI.

They have also contacted the Attorney General and the IRS.

The company is offering a reward of $5,000 for information leading to an arrest. In the meantime, employees are being given free identity theft services.
