Phishing Scam Targets Walmart Customers

Posted by: Timothy Weaver on 08/12/2016 10:50 AM [ comments Comments ]

A series of complaints recently made on social media are coming from Walmart.com users who are being flooded by emails urging them to reset their passwords. One user reports that in only one hour he has received 1,088 password reset emails from walmart.com.

What is so alarming about the emails is that they are not coming from some third party but appear to be coming from the legit retailer. The reset page also appears to be legit. The spam like campaign suggests that some hacker is trying to steal credentials.

The nature of the campaign would suggest that Walmart has been hacked. Android Origin postulates that either some clever hacker is trying to kill Walmarts servers or a disgruntled employee is trying to pull off some kind of scheme.

Do not use the links to reset your password but rather do it manually from the website without following any links.
