Phishing still hooks millions

PhishMe recently sent out an email with a cute cat picture and the note that said "Check out these Kittens". They wanted to learn how many people clicked on it without thinking. Four million did so within hours.

Trustwave Holdings, another security firm, dropped thumb drives and CD's in bathrooms and lunchrooms to test company security measure. Anyone curious enough to try to find out what was on the drive or disc had their email registered. To make it more appealing, the drives and disc's were labeled "confidential".

Seventy one million people fell victim to online scams and phishing attacks last year. That, according to KnowBe4. As many as half of all employees are susceptable to phishing come-ons in emails. A phishing attack on a government credit union site recently resulted in the transfer of several hundreds of thousand dollars into offshore accounts.
