Ransomware Hacker Demands Education Instead of Bitcoins

Posted by: Timothy Weaver on 01/07/2017 11:42 AM [ comments Comments ]

There is a black hat hacker who wants people get educated about ransomware.

He is spreading a new variant of the Koolova ransomware that encrypts victims system files. But this hacker is not demanding any monetary ransom. Instead, according to security researcher Michael Gillespie and Bleeping Computer, the hacker is demanding that his victims read two articles about ransomware in order to decrypt their files.

The two articles are a Google Security Blog, Stay safe while browsing, and a Bleeping Computer article, Jigsaw Ransomware Decrypted: Will delete your files until you pay the Ransom.

The ransomware is similar or a variant of Jigsaw ransomware. Lawrence Abrams, Bleeping Computer's founder, said that the black hat hacker is not kidding. If the victim doesn't meet the demand, his files will be deleted.

However, the future of the ransomware is in question. Abrams went on to say: “As all of the Koolova ransomware variants I have seen have been in development, there is a good chance that this one will never actually make it to the wild.”
