Kaspersky Labs has reported that there has been a 17.7 percent world-wide rise in ransomware attacks.
Crypto ransomware is the leading malware which out paces the Windows blocker type. Encryption type ransomware has seen a 25 percent rise over the previous year. And according to Kaspersky, the Windows blocker has seen a decrease of 13.03 percent.
“The biggest difference between the two types of ransomware: blockers and encryption ransomware is that blocker damage is fully reversible. Even in the worst case scenario, the owner of an infected PC could simply reinstall the OS to get all their files back,” wrote Kaspersky Lab.
The attacks have started to shift from a 93% of home users to a 13 percent directed at corporations. Additionally, 54% of the attacks involved encryption ransomware.
Interesting enough is that the highest number of attacks are aimed at the Russian Federation and India.
