A man in Iowa City, IA., attempted to eat his stash of pot as police pulled him over for driving without headlights. Quentrel J. Johnson, 19, was directed to exit the vehicle after police smelled a strong odor of marijuana, at that point they noticed that the suspect was chewing something that appeared to be pot.
According to the Post-Citizen, police also located a plastic bag containing a “sizable amount” of marijuana hidden in Johnson’s crotch area, according to police. Johnson admitted to smoking marijuana before driving, police say.
A search of Johnson’s car located a prescription bottle containing codeine, a prescription opiate, with the portion of the label containing the patient’s name torn off, according to police complaints.
Officers also noted that there was a mixed drink in the center console, which was found to contain crushed codeine, sprite and lemonade.
Johnson faces serious misdemeanor counts for possession of a prescription drug and driving while under the influence. He is also facing an aggravated misdemeanor charge for obstruction of justice for eating the pot in an attempt to destroy evidence.
