Confirmed: Apple to Acquire Shazam

Posted by: Timothy Tibbetts on 12/11/2017 04:20 PM [ comments Comments ]

Word on the street is that Apple is acquiring Shazam and the announcement could come as soon as Monday.

Update: As many predicted, the deal was announced today. Price remains unknown, but the 400 million number seems to stay the guess here.

"We are thrilled that Shazam and its talented team will be joining Apple. Since the launch of the App Store, Shazam has consistently ranked as one of the most popular apps for iOS," Apple said in a statement Monday. "We have exciting plans in store, and we look forward to combining with Shazam upon approval of today's agreement."

Price remains unknown, but it's believed to be in the 400 million range.

Shazam has been profitable since 2016 with over a billion downloads and 54 million in revenue for 2017.

Shazam Entertainment Ltd. is a British app development company that created an app that can identify music, movies, advertising, and television shows, based on a short sample played and using the microphone on the device. Shazam Entertainment Limited was founded in 1999 by Chris Barton, Philip Inghelbrecht, Avery Wang, and Dhiraj Mukherjee.
