Russia is cracking down on internet porn. They want their citizens to go out and get a date.
The government-controlled Internet watchdog, Roskomnadzor, has ordered internet providers to block Porn Hub and YouPorn.
In May of 2016, a judge ordered the sites banned for violating "the ban on the dissemination of information regarding the production of pornographic materials and paraphernalia."
Under Russian law, watching porn is not illegal, but filming or disseminating it is, according to article 242 of the Russian Federation's Criminal Code.
Russian porn hounds didn't take it sitting down. There was a lot of backlash which the Roskomnadzor replied: "meet someone in real life."
Porn is not the only target of the Roskomnadzor. In the past, they have also banned such websites as Wayback Machine, Wikipedia, and Reddit for pages that discussed content on child pornography, terrorism, and cannabis. Those websites caved in and implemented server-side filters for Russian users. All bans were later lifted.
