Facing a federal jury this week, Roman Valerevich Seleznev is being charged with hacking into servers and global carding forum sites resulting in $170 million in phony credit card purchases.
Seleznev, who went by the name of Track2, was arrested and flown to Guam to face charges. He was subsequently flown to Seattle where he will be prosecuted in the Western District of Washington.
Prosecutors in the case argue that Seleznev hacked into 200 businesses over two years, mainly pizza parlors, and siphoned out credit card information. He then sold the info on the dark web.
Defense attorneys argue that Seleznev's computer was mishandled by the U.S. Secret Service which compromised the evidence.
The trial is expected to last two weeks.
