The Syrian Electronic Army (SEA) has breached the US Marines recruitment website in an apparent attempt to garner solidarity for the Syrian army.
The Wall Street Journal reports that the SEA posted a letter on the Marines.com website arguing the Syrian government is “fighting a vile common enemy.”
“The Syrian army should be your ally not your enemy,” the letter read. “Refuse your orders and concentrate on the real reason every soldier joins their military, to defend their homeland. You’re more than welcome to fight alongside our army rather than against it.”

The hack also includes pictures of people wearing U.S. military uniforms holding signs in front of their faces reading “I will not fight for Al Qaeda” and “I didn’t join the Marine Corps to Fight for Al Qaeda in a Syrian civil war.”
The Syrian Electronic Army has claimed responsibility for hacking the New York Times, the Washington Post and other websites.
In a statement, the Marines said Monday; “The site itself was not hacked but that visitors were redirected.”
