A hunter in Delaware county, NY, shot and killed a deer in the Hudson Valley woods and was carting the kill off the property when a second hunter opened fire on the dead deer thinking it was still alive and moving on its own.
The first hunter was shot through the hand and buttock. According to the Poughkeepsie Journal, the first hunter saw the deer moving, thought it was alive, fired and struck the first hunter in the hand and buttocks. The injured hunter was taken to Danbury Hospital in CT with non-life threatening injuries.

The whole story seems suspicious considering what a deer on a hunting cart looks like.
The incident occurred at about 10:25 a.m. One hunter was from Wappingers Falls, the other was from Beacon. No further information was available.
The incident is being investigated by the NY Department of Environmental Conservation police.
The deer remains dead.
