Six Ways Santa Could Have Prevented Being Hacked

Posted by: Timothy Weaver on 12/28/2015 10:57 AM [ comments Comments ]

We informed you before Christmas that Santa got hacked. It remains unclear who hacked Santa and precisely how they did it, but Santa has vowed to never let it happen again.

Below are six ways Santa could have prevented the hacking.

(1) Avoid fake log in pages. Fake sites may look like the real thing, but make sure the address is correct. It's as easy as Santa logging in to North Coal Financial instead of North Pole Financial — giving the bad guys free access to his bank account and more.

(2) Be wary of Social Engineering scams. Be careful of fake friend requests. And never click on links in your timeline that could give the hacker personal info.

(3) Protect yourself from compromised websites. Land on a compromised website and it can be too late — you're already in danger of being victimized by a cyber threat.

(4) Make sure your kids are protected when online. Have virus protection and keep it up to date, talk with your kids about safe surfing and safe ways to download apps.

(5) Skip the malicious apps. That means you only download from safe sites such as the Google Play store and the Apple App store.

6) Stay away from ransomware. That means do regular back ups of your important files and folders.
