Smart TV's Hacked With Radio Signals

Posted by: Timothy Weaver on 04/05/2017 01:46 PM [ comments Comments ]

Got a smart TV? Did you know how easily it can be hacked?

Researcher Rafael Scheel hacked two Samsung TV's using common radio signals. A hacker could then take over control of the TV's camera and microphone to view who is viewing.

Although the proof of concept involved Samsung TV's, the same flaw could be found in 90% of sets now available on the European market. Furthermore, rebooting the systems or undergoing a factory reset will not remove the malicious commands.

According to ARS Technica, the signal exploits two flaws found in the browser that runs in the background while the set is in use. The signal can be used to control several sets at the same time.
