Smartphones top 1 Billion sold in 2013

According to data from IDC’s Worldwide Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker, the smartphone market topped 1 billion shipments for the first time in 2013.
Smartphone shipments totaled 725 million units in 2012. In 2013, that number increased to 38.4 percent or 1.82 billion mobile phones shipped. Of that, smartphones accounted for 4.8 percent.
Samsung led the market with a 31.3 percent market share in smartphones. Apple followed with 15.3 percent. According to IDC, they were followed by Huawei at 4.9 percent, LG at 4.8 percent, and Lenovo at 4.5 percent.
