Smithsonian Art coming to a smartphone soon

Posted by: Timothy Weaver on 05/12/2014 11:08 AM [ comments Comments ]

The Smithsonian American Art Museum collected art may soon be coming to a smartphone near you.

On Friday, the White House announced in a blog post that the Smithsonian American Art Museum would soon open up its digitized collection to developers. The hope is that it will be developed into educational apps.

The Museum will release information on works in the collection such as the artist or medium used. They will also release images “without copyright or other restriction [...] for non- commercial, educational use.”

The process is expected to be completed by December.
