Michael Corona and Christina Mathis, two Sony employees, filed a class action suit in a federal court in the Central District of California against the company for allegedly failing to protect its computer systems against hackers.
The suit describes the catastrophic hacking of Sony Pictures's internal computer network as "[a]n epic nightmare, much better suited to a cinematic thriller than to real life," which "is unfolding in slow motion for Sony's current and former employees."
Among other things stolen and posted online was tens of thousands of Social Security numbers belonging to both employees and famous Hollywood stars.
The suit stated: Employees' "most sensitive data, including over 47,000 Social Security numbers, employment files including salaries, medical information, and anything else that their employer Sony touched, has been leaked to the public, and may even be in the hands of criminals.”
