The Korea Economic Times reports that they have sources who say Samsung Electronics will supply mobile application processor (AP) to Apple again starting in 2015.
Samsung Electronics had supplied the AP to Apple since 2007 but lost the contract to supply 20 nano AP A8 chips to Apple last year when it was engaged in patent disputes with Apple. Samsung Electronics developed state-of-the-art 14 nano models ahead of it's rival.
This is currently unconfirmed but makes sense. The PC market basically ended up with Intel being the king of chips. It had the best product and even Apple eventually went with Intel chips further blurring the line between a Mac and PC since both now use identical hardware.
Apple is also reportedly exploring a possible deal with Globalfoundries in Upstate NY to produce future chips, giving the company the kind of control over both design and chip manufacturing that Intel has.
