The FCC said in a news release Monday that Sprint has agreed to pay a record $7.5 million to settle a Do-Not-Call case.
The FCC went on to say: Sprint will also "implement a two-year plan to ensure compliance with FCC requirements designed to protect consumer privacy and prevent consumers from receiving unwanted telemarketing calls."
Travis LeBlanc, acting chief of the FCC's Enforcement Bureau, said in a statement: "We expect companies to respect the privacy of consumers who have opted out of marketing calls. When a consumer tells a company to stop calling or texting with promotional pitches, that request must be honored. Today's settlement leaves no question that protecting consumer privacy is a top enforcement priority."
U.S. phone subscribers can place their residential telephone numbers and cell numbers on the Do-Not-Call list by visiting www.donotcall.gov or calling either 1-888-382-1222 or 1-866-290-4236 from the phone number they wish to register.
