Teacher taped Tucson tike to chair (VIDEO)

A teacher in Tuscon, AZ., has been removed from her classroom for allegedly taping a second grader to a chair as punishment for getting up too many times to sharpen her pencil.

KGUN 9 spoke to the family and they stated they are outraged over what their daughter says happened to her inside a Tucson classroom. They say the way a teacher tried to control their second grader is simply wrong. Police are involved, and the district has pulled the teacher from class.

Mia Kramer was excited to begin second grade at Hollinger Elementary on Tucson’s southwest side.

“I like about my school that my friends get to be nice to me,” she told KGUN9 News.

Kramer said she walked to the pencil sharpener too many times on Thursday, upsetting her teacher. She said her teacher then told her to sit down.

Kramer showed KGUN9 what she told police happened next. She said the teacher taped her to a chair in the classroom.

“It felt like something's happening to me and it's wrong,” Kramer said.

She said one strip of tape went around her stomach and the back of the chair and another higher up.

“The other one I had to put my arms up,” she said.

She said she complied, other students were in the room and it hurt “a little.” She said the tape was wide like packing tape.

Her mother is outraged and emotional.

Tucson Unified School District representatives declined an interview and instead sent a statement, which read in part: “We take these things very seriously. Obviously such behavior is not appropriate or acceptable and is not part of any district protocol. The teacher is not in the classroom pending the outcome of the investigation. The complaint has been referred to district leadership and if it’s determined that this incident took place, appropriate disciplinary action will be taken. "

I have always thought that mechanical pencils are much better than the standard #2 Ticonderoga type. ;)
