The Buckle Inc., a clothier that operates more than 450 stores in 44 U.S. states, is the latest to fall prey to a POS scam.
After receiving reports from financial institutions, KrebsOnSecurity contacted the company.
Buckle released a statement that it was indeed victimized by POS malware between Oct. 28, 2016 and April 14, 2017. Customer credit and debit card information was compromised.
The malware is capable of copying the account information stored on the cards and could allow the crooks to clone the cards and use them to buy high-priced merchandise from electronics stores and big box retailers.
Customers who used chip-based credit and debit cards should not be affected.
Visa said thar they have sent out more than 421 million Visa chip cards and as a result, counterfeit fraud is down 58 percent at chip-enabled merchants.
