LifeLock is being investigated by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) regarding its alleged false claim about its identity protection services. Further, the FTC contends that the company is failing to implement the required steps to protect its customers' data.
The FTC asserts that the company violates the terms of a $12 million settlement from 2010 by lying about its protection protocols. Furthermore, the company has failed to adopt stringent security measures.
The U.S. District Court for the District of Arizona has been asked by the FTC to impose an order to require LifeLock to compensate all customers affected by the violation.
The FTC's Bureau of Consumer Protection director Jessica Rich, said: βIt is essential that companies live up to their obligations under orders obtained by the FTC. If a company continues with practices that violate orders and harm consumers, we will act.β
