Several major record labels, including Sony Music, Universal Music and Warner Music, have won a lawsuit against the two co-founders of The Pirate Bay, the world's most popular torrent website.
A Finnish court has ordered Fredrik Neij and Gottfrid Svartholm Warg to pay record labels $477,800 in compensation for copyright infringement. The third co-founder, Peter Sunde, was ordered last year to pay nearly $395,000 (350,000 Euros) in damages.
Sunde has not paid the restitution and has turned the tables by announcing his intention to sue the record labels for defamation.
The three were facing criminal copyright infringement and abuse of electronic communications charges in a Belgian court. However, they were acquitted when if was divulged that they had sold the site in 2006.
Over the past few years, the trio have been sued and lost to other copyright holders and owe large sums of money. However, the penalties have gone unpaid. It is doubtful that this recent judgement will be "satisfied" as well.
