Two days ago, a hacker with the group anonymous, took down over 10,000 tor websites.
He hacked into the Freedom Hosting II server and left this message:
"Hello, Freedom Hosting II, you have been hacked."
Freedom is the hosting site for somewhere between 15 and 20 percent of all sites on the Dark Web. The hacker also stole the database and held it ransom for 0.1 BTC ($100) for the return of the database.
Apparently, they didn't pay and the database was published on the tor network, which included email details of nearly 381,000 users.
The hacker found that over 50% of all files hosted were related to child pornography. The hacker said he had no intention to take down the service until he discovered all the child pornography sites. He downloaded 74GB of files and a user database dump of 2.3GB.
Law enforcement should be happy.
