A traffic light in Columbia, SC., crashed through the windshield of a passing vehicle after being improperly installed by road crews; high winds that were in the area loosened the signal further, resulting in the car strike.
According to FOX 12, DOT District Construction Engineer Brian Jones confirmed the lights are new within the last year. Jones says it appears the signals were improperly installed and loosened in the high winds. In the next day they'll inspect all signals at Two Notch and Firelane Road.

It was a private group contracted by DOT who installed the lights at the intersection. The city does similar work at 280 city intersections. The lights can weigh up to 50 pounds.
No one was injured in the incident. But I am sure the 'light went off' for that motorist - lawsuit -cha-ching!
